Description Vintage Contract Bridge Kit plus Reversi by Jaques & Son of London. Offered here is a vintage Contract Bridge kit, housed in a green leather case with a textured finish and secure clasp. Included are two Portland Club scoring tables (vulnerable/non-vulnerable, printed in England, two De La Rue double-sided score pads and pencils. Perfect for use at that weekly Bridge gathering or Poker game. This rare set includes two full decks of 52 high-quality playing cards featuring stunning wildlife illustrations on the backs: one deck adorned with a Blue Grouse in flight and the other with a Pheasant striding across the landscape. The face cards showcase classic suits (hearts, diamonds, clubs, spades) in crisp red and black designs, complete with whimsical jokers depicting a playful jester for added charm. Ideal for contract bride games, poker nights. This Bridge Kit is in very good condition. A green textured, mint condition of he 1929 edition of “The Laws of Contract Bridge” is included. The vintage Bridge Kit was likely produced in the early 1930s, shortly after the Portland Club adopted contract bridge scoring in 1929. The scoring pads are official Portland Club items printed in England, and the card backs feature illustrations by Scottish artist Archibald Thorburn (1860-1935). The playing cards were manufactured and market: “John Waddington, Ltd., Leeds London”, common makers of luxury bridge sets during that era. Also included as a bonus is an antique Reversi game by J. Jaques and Son of London in well enjoyed but serviceable condition. This antique Reversi game set by Jaques & Son, London—dating to around 1888 based on the company’s first publication of the game—has collectible value as a rare Victorian-era item from a renowned British game manufacturer. The “Lewis Waterman, Inventor” labeling and “One Shilling” price point confirm its late 19th-century origin, adding to its appeal for board game collectors. It includes the original rules.
